Did Danforth know that the people he executed were innocent in The Crucible?

Like when Parris and Hale come up to him in ACT 3 (I think) and tell him to postpone the executions, is that where he realized that it was all a hoax and the people were innocent, but still had to carry on to protect their name in the court, despite the innocence?
