How is biphenyl (non-polar) soluble in methanol if methanol is polar?

Here;s the secret . . . anything that happens in chemistry can be argues to occur by hydrogen bonding. If it doesn't occur then argue steric hindrance. Both are believed yet unproven theories, hence cannot be dismissed as false (except perhaps by some pompous high school chemistry teacher who always knows better!).
